A concrete result on the matter is likely when the PCB and the BCCI officials sit down face to face in the upcoming ICC meeting later this month.

While several big names from cricket have come out and openly supported the possibility of boycotting Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup in the wake of the Pulwama attack, former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer has said the Men in Blue should play this game. India are scheduled to meet Pakistan in their fourth group game on June 16 in Manchester. However, the fixture is now under doubt due to the huge protest.

The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Sourav Ganguly, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla as well as other biggies from the cricketing fraternity have called for the boycott. But contrary to the popular sentiments, Engineer reckons India should go ahead, play the game and thrash the Pakistanis for ‘our jawans’.

The legendary wicketkeeper also expressed his disappointment over Pakistan Prime Minister and former skipper Imran Khan’s comments on the attack. Imran Khan not only denied the allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the attack despite the Pakistan-based militant group claiming the responsibility but also stated that his country would retaliate if India start war. Engineer was livid with Imran Khan after the latter did not show even a bit of remorse or sympathy over the dastardly attack.

“I am hugely disappointed with my friend Imran for not showing the slightest remorse towards our brave jawans,” Engineer was quoted as saying by Mid-Day. He further clarified that the only reason why he wants the game to go ahead is that cancellation would disrupt the World Cup and harm the game.

No Pakistan in World Cup?

The whole matter, meanwhile, has taken a new turn as latest reports suggest that BCCI is now ready to take even a bigger step. According to a report in India TodayCommittee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai has asked BCCI CEO Rahul Johri to write a letter to the ICC, telling them to now allow Pakistan in the World Cup for harboring terrorists in their country.

A concrete result on the matter is likely when the PCB and the BCCI officials sit down face to face in the upcoming ICC meeting later this month.
