After the conclusion of the IPL 2022 on May 29, the focus will be back on India’s international fixtures with the Men In Blue hosting South Africa in a five-match T20I series starting June 9. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the upcoming T20Is on Sunday (May 22) with emerging speedster Umran Malik getting an India call-up.

Apart from Umran, other players who performed consistently in the ongoing season of the marquee tournament also got national call-ups including the likes of yorker specialist Arshdeep Singh and veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik. However, one of the highly-anticipated names went missing on this list and it happened to be that of SRH batter Rahul Tripathi who has done exceptionally well in this year’s IPL.

Many of the fans and the members of the cricketing fraternity had batted for Tripathi’s inclusion in India’s T20I squad and since he was ignored by the selectors, the Twitterverse came forward and expressed their disappointment.

Tripathi has done extremely well in IPL 2022 so far

Rahul Tripathi has been one of the saviours of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and also their most consistent middle-order performer in the ongoing IPL 2022 having amassed 393 runs from 13 outings averaging 39.30 and a strike rate of 161.73 that included three half-centuries and as many unbeaten knocks. Not only this season, but Tripathi has been consistently doing well in the IPL and also in domestic cricket.

SRH were one of the most inconsistent sides in the competition and have been knocked out for a second successive season without making the playoffs. They would now be playing for pride against the Punjab Kings in the final league fixture of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium on May 22.

Coming back to international fixtures, India will be led by the limited-overs vice-captain KL Rahul with key members Virat Kohli, skipper Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah rested for this T20I series as India have a packed calendar in the second half of this year that also includes the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in Australia. Meanwhile, Twitter was not happy with the selectors for not picking Rahul Tripathi in India’s T20I squad.
