Team India played some quality Test cricket in the past couple of years and they subsequently advanced to the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final. However, New Zealand defeated Virat Kohli’s men by eight wickets in the final clash and walked away with the title. Fans witnessed some fascinating contest in the WTC final and both teams were neck-to-neck in the major part.

However, New Zealand proved to be the better side on the final day and as a result, they were crowned champions at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Needless to say, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was gutted with the defeat as his side was the front-runner to clinch the title.  Speaking of the bitter loss after the game, Kohli talked about the need for a minimum of three-Test series in the future to decide the winners of the WTC Final.

“I am not in absolute agreement of deciding the best Test side in the world over the course of one game. If it is a Test series, it has to be a test of character over three Tests – which team has the ability to come back in the series or totally blow away the other team,” the 32-year-old asserted after the game.

Kohli’s statement became a hot topic of discussion and the cricket fans were left divided. While many backed the Indian skipper’s idea, several weren’t in agreement with him. Former England captain Michael Vaughan belonged to the latter category. Reacting to Kohli’s views on Twitter, Vaughan highlighted that scheduling a three-match series for the WTC final doesn’t seem realistic owning to the packed schedule.

He also reckoned final are one-off games that test the character of players. “Where in the schedule would it fit in ?? Are the IPL going to reduce the year of the final tournament by 2 weeks so it could fit in ? Doubt it ..: Finals are one off games where teams/individuals know they have to deliver … that’s what makes them so great,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Indian Test team will next lock horns with hosts England in a five-match Test series. Virat Kohli’s men defeated the Three Lions at home earlier this year and would like to replicate their heroics again. At the same time, Joe Root’s men would be raring to settle the scores.
