An FIR has been filed with regard to the celebratory firing during the wedding of Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja in Rajkot on April 17. Jadeja, currently playing for Gujarat Lions in the IPL, married Reeva Solanki on April 17. The act was caught on camera.

A video showing Ravindra Jadeja’s maternal relative Kripalsinhji firing celebratory rounds from his pistols during the pre-marriage ceremonies attracted unnecessary controversy. The gunshots were fired just a few feet away from the bridegroom during the marriage procession. Local police immediately arrived at the incident site to launch an inquiry.

“We had sought visuals and other videos related to the marriage from the Jadeja family and after examining them thoroughly we found that a person had opened fire in the air,” said Mahendra Singh Rana, PSI of the Lodhika Police Station.

“We have lodged an FIR against him under IPC section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and section 30 of the Arms Act,” Rana said.

Police were investigating whether his arms license had expired, the police officer added. No arrest has been made.

MN Rana, told IBN 7 (16th April), had earlier stated that if the offense is proven then the accused might be sentenced to three years in jail. Rana clarified that even if a licensed weapon are used to fire, it should be for defense purpose only.
