In recent developments from Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the number of foreign players who would be allowed to feature in a team might be increased from four to five. Though nothing has been confirmed as of now, there have been speculations regarding the Bangladesh Cricket Board entertaining the idea of increasing the number of foreign personnel in the eleven.

Swashbuckling opening batsman and Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza recently expressed their reservations regarding the move by the BCB. Tamim Iqbal stated that he has requested his franchise to not give in to this move from the BCB. Tamim believes that the tournament gives an opportunity to test the reserves of the Bangladesh team. Mashrafe Mortaza cited out that the successful teams in the competitions have had the backing of local player’s performances.

Tamim against the five player rule in BPL

“The decision is yet to be finalised. But as you are asking me this, so I am telling you. I have been in the national team for over a decade, so if the board asks my opinion as a senior cricketer, I will tell them that I am against it. I have already requested my franchise not to give in to BCB’s proposal to add one more foreign player in the playing XI. ” commented Tamim Iqbal according to BDCrictime.

“This tournament is a big opportunity to create more backup players. If you have noticed, in last four seasons, that team won every time which had the local players doing better. Now if you increase foreign players, win-loss will depend more on them.Besides if you take one more foreign player, that means one less local player will get a chance, which I don’t want.” If the board wants my opinion, I will go for four foreign players as it was before.” further augmented the Bangladesh skipper.
