Fixtures of Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe announced: The Afghanistan team is all set to tour Zimbabwe for a limited over series starting October 16. The tour will encompass 5 ODI matches and 2 T20Is. All the matches will be played at Harare Sports Club. The 5-match ODI series will commence from October 16 and will end on October 24. The T20I matches will be played on 27th and 29th October respectively.
Afghanistan had last featured in World T20 qualifiers. And their excellent performance in the tournament sealed an elusive berth for them in World T20 2016 which is slated to be played in India, next year. Oman was the other team which had secured a place in the World T20 2016. Afghanistan is progressing at a rapid rate and despite all the adversities back home, their performance has not taken a back seat. They have taken all the disappointments in their stride in an inspirational way and are intensifying roots of cricket in folklore of Afghanistan.
Recently in World Cup 2015, they had created history when they defeated Scotland in a thriller to secure their first ever World Cup win. The match went right down to the wire with just three balls left and the last two batsmen at the crease. As far as Zimbabweans are concerned they had recently hosted New Zealand in a bilateral limited overs series. They even won the 2nd ODI match of the 3-match ODI series but history repeated itself when they lost the series decider.
And they had also fared up poorly in the T20I series in which Black Caps outplayed them completely. But in this series, they are the red-hot favorites as they will be playing in their familiar home-conditions against a relatively weaker side. But yet Afghanistan has shown to the world that they have everything in them to beat any side on their day. It seems an exciting tour is waiting to unfold.
