Former Australian fast bowler Craig McDermott was at his deadly best in a career that spanned over 12 years. The fast-bowler has 494 international wickets from 209 games but the one series that would not have flushed out of his mind possibly, will be the featuring India in the year 1992.  A young 18-year-old Sachin Tendulkar was seen going after the Australian bowling pack in a merciless manner during that tour down-under.

In one of the hard fought games in Melbourne, the maestro pulled a rising bouncer from none other than Craig McDermott, to the square leg boundary. An annoyed McDermott came back on his follow through and didn’t shy away from having a go at the young Indian. The Aussie pacer told him “Ba#&*^%#d..come to Perth,I will see you there..”

When Merv Hughes predicted the future right

In the next at Perth, tailor-made for a raw fast bowler, McDermott was charged up and was bowling with all his intent. He obviously had a plan for the Indian youngster and as expected bowled a well intended bouncer to Sachin. The batsman pulled the red cherry over square leg for a gigantic six. Sachin sent each of the bowlers for leather hunt in the process scored a hundred. He made 114 runs, courtesy 16 boundaries. After watching Sachin score that hundred, another Aussie fast bowler Merv Hughes, who played in that Test told his captain Allan Border, “A B,this little prick’s going to get more runs than you,”. The rest is a part of history now.

Tendulkar’s ton went in vain

India though went on to lose the Test match by a massive margin of 300 runs. The visitors were bundled out for 141 in their second innings, with Sachin scoring just eight runs. McDermott scalped 2 wickets for 47 runs in the second innings after bending his back for 21 overs.
