Following their world cup 2015 win, Australia announces Ashes 2015 squad: The Cricket Australia (CA) selectors are the most lauded bunch now, the primary squad of 15 that they selected for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has proved itself to be the best among all the 14 participating teams as they won the 5th world cup title for Australia defeating co-hosts and neighbors New Zealand in the final on the 29th March, 2015.
Following their world cup win, the CA selectors met, chalked down the challenges ahead and have identified and declared the squad of 17 which will first tour West Indies for a two test match series starting from the 5th of June and then make their way to England for the Ashes 2015.
Pace bowler Ryan Harris who is a part of the squad is believed to be exempted from the West Indies tour as he wished to stay back while his wife is expected to deliver their first baby in the same time phase. Ryan will be a part of the team for the Ashes in England.
The test team will be captioned by Michael Clarke who has now retired from ODI cricket after the world cup 2015 final to channelize his energies and focus on test cricket. As expected the man in form Steve Smith will be Clarke’s deputy on tour.
Along with the regular names two guys have been rewarded with a spot in the Ashes 2015 squad for excellent domestic performance, those are Middlesex captain Adam Voges who was also the Play of the Year at the Sheffield Shield for hitting 1358 runs in the season at a whooping average of 104.46.
33 years old leg spinner Fawad Ahmed has also been picked in the squad, while many believed Glenn Maxwell who has been a successful player for the team in limited over’s cricket should have been given a chance. Fawad has made a cut into the squad ahead of both Maxwell and young left arm spinner Ashton Agar.
Cricket Australia National selector Rod Marsh on both these inclusions said, “Adam Voges and Fawad Ahmed had sensational seasons at domestic level and their performances just couldn’t be ignored, “We believe that both can play important roles in the side if required.”
