For Jasprit Bumrah, success isn’t always about greatness

It’s not even a year when Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler made his Test debut against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town, yet he has carved himself as an indispensable member of the national team in the most traditional version of the sport. He has played nine Tests in which he has picked up 48 wickets with an incredible average of 21.02 and a decent strike-rate of 47.4.

The 25-year-old is currently playing the four-match Test series against Australia and he hasn’t flattered to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. The right-arm seamer from Ahmedabad is currently the leading wicket-taker of the series with 20 wickets from three matches at an average of 14.65 and a strike-rate of 40.2. The pacer has been a class apart from his counterparts.

He also bagged the Man of the Man in the erstwhile Test, which India won by a mammoth 137 runs, at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In the first innings, he ran through the Aussie batting lineup with a six-wicket haul. The stupendous spell of bowling helped India bowl Australia out for 151 and garner a first-innings lead of 292 runs after which India didn’t look back in the contest.

While Tim Paine and Co were chasing 399, Bumrah picked up three crucial wickets of Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh and Pat Cummins, who was the hosts’ sole half-century maker in the encounter. He used the bouncer to good effect and also foxed the batsmen with his deceptive slower deliveries.

In the meantime, Bumrah was also happy for the reason that India were able to end the year on a positive note. The tall and lanky bowler took to Twitter and wrote, “Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. A dream win for us and what a way to end the year! Truly exceptional,”
