Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie was quite a threat to the batsmen in his playing days but that he still not a spent force when it comes to handling opponents became clear recently when a troll confronted him on the social media.
The 44-year-old, who is now a successful coach, is a vegan and the troll tried to shut him over that. Gillespie, however, refused to take it lying down. A person took a dig at Gillespie over his remark about how he ‘couldn’t justify consuming an animal product’ and said the former cricketer must have ‘low haemoglobin levels because cricket uses leather balls’.
To this, Gillespie said he has been a vegan for just over five years and it did not coincide with his professional career. He said he is ‘very happy and healthy’ and that he understands that ‘we do not live in a vegan world- just trying to do the very best I can’. Gillespie then told his critic straight that his attempt to belittle him failed.
He earned accolades from the Twitterati and even his former teammate Damien Martyn backed him in a tweet, saying: “Well said, big man…” Gillespie had spoken in favour of veganism a few years ago when he said about not being able to justify eating animal products. Even his Twitter account displays a plant to assert his vegan habits.
Well said big man…

Jason Gillespie has been a successful coach
The former cricketer, who hit an unbeaten double hundred in his final Test in 2006 against Bangladesh, has made quite a name in the coaching circle. After having coached his former county team Yorkshire to get promoted in the County Championship and eventually win the title in 2014 and 2015, Gillespie is currently the coach of Sussex — an assignment he took up last year.
Gillespie is also the head coach of Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. He was also appointed the interim head coach of Papua New Guinea in 2017 where he took over from New Zealander Dipak Patel and also had a small stint with Kent.
