The Australian cricketer was shaken at the deep levels with three of their cricketers recently getting bans from the game. Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft were banned by the Cricket Australia for their alleged involvement in the ball tampering scandal during the Cape Town Test against South Africa. While Smith and Warner were banned for a year each, Bancroft got a 9 month ban. Now, former cricketer Justin Langer has come out in support of Cameron Bancroft.

As per the recent quotes in Times Now, Justin Langer sympathized with Bancroft. He noted that any new member of the team would do what their captains or leaders will ask them to do. He went on to quote that even he would have done the same had his skipper instructed him to do so. However, he added that during his playing days, the cricketers respected the game a lot and did not wish to bring disrepute to the game.

“If Allan Border had asked me to tamper with the ball I would’ve. I would’ve because I would be too scared not to. The difference is Allan Border would never have asked me and Bobby Simpson would’ve killed me. He would’ve killed anyone who brought the game into disrepute,” Justin Langer quoted.

“What I can’t believe is that Cameron Bancroft walked into the Australian cricket team and he was in a position where he made that decision,” Langer added further.

Justin Langer bats for their comeback

Commenting further on the same note, Justin Langer believes that the three cricketers have learnt their lesson big time. Hence, if and when they aim to make a comeback to the team, they would be welcome in the change room again.

“If we can keep mentoring them and helping them, and they want to keep getting better and meet the standards of the Australian cricket team, then, of course, they’ll be welcome back,” the former cricketer remarked.
