In a very ugly turn of events, the officials of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) were seen involved in an exchange of allegations on one another. Biswarup Dey, the former treasurer of CAB has alleged that under the presidentship of Sourav Ganguly, there was discrepancy in ticket distribution during the final ODI against England. He alleged that the administration lacked transparency. Biswarup Dey had to quit his post following the Lodha recommendations as he had served the position for over 9 years.

He looked bitterly upset over the fact that he was denied his share of complimentary tickets for the match. Sourav Ganguly rubbished all these claims and said that Dey often took close to 300 tickets for every game played at Eden Gardens. “He always takes about 200 to 300 tickets from me, so his allegations are baseless. I don’t want to comment further,” Ganguly quoted.

In a letter to Sourav Ganguly, Dey had written, “Lodha in his recommendation stated that the distribution of tickets for International/IPL matches should have transparency. In my case, the transparency of distribution of tickets is a question to CAB… I request you to kindly intervene in the matter and resolve the issue.”

“I am very surprised that after rendering services to CAB in different capacities for the past several years, not a single ticket was given to me,” he quoted further. Now, Dey has threatened to take matters to the court if his questions are not answered within a week.

His discontent could further be seen in the fact that he believes that he was the scapegoat of the entire Lodha scenario. He cited that the Chairman of Board of Trustees, Mr. Dasgupta, continues to serve his post despite being over 70 years of age. “He’s well past 70 years and has had nine years in tenure… How come he’s still continuing?” he questioned. Dasgupta, in his firm response, answered, “It seems he does not know my age.”

Talking about the other allegations made against the CAB officials, Dasguptsa noted that all decisions are made by the President of the board. “It was purely president’s call. Ticket distribution was looked after by the President. As per the list given by him, Dey’s name was not mentioned along with two more office bearers,” Dasgupta quoted.
