Post yet another MS Dhoni special at Pallekele in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, his childhood coach Keshav Banerjee lashed out the Chairman of Selectors of BCCI, MSK Prasad, for his stern remarks on the greatest finisher of ODIs, prior to the start of the series. Prasad earlier claimed that MSD is not the automatic choice in the Blues for India anymore and if he fails to deliver, they will think of other choices.
MSD, on the other hand, had the perfect reply for Prasad has he played an unbeaten knock of 45 under pressure. With wickets falling around him, he guided his team home with the help of a match-winning contribution from Bhuvneshwar Kumar who scored 53*. MS Dhoni shepherded Bhuvi to combat the bowling of Dhananjaya who dismissed six Indian batsmen before he walked in to bat.
Won’t wait for anyone before calling it quits
“Every selector has their own way of team selection procedure but my question is that why he has made this public. As much as I know Dhoni, if he feels that it’s time to hang his boots, he will retire without saying a word. A few days back when he was talking to me, he said sir jab time ayega, chor denge. Kisike liye wait nahin karenge,” commented Keshav Banerjee according to xtratime.
The coach was furious and went to the extent of asking Prasad to look into his own performance for the national team and think twice before questioning someone like MS Dhoni. He also mentioned that Dhoni is someone who will not wait for anyone to tell him that it’s time and will just walk away when he thinks it is the right time.
“He doesn’t have the authority to say such things against MS Dhoni. Prasad should ask himself that in how many matches he was a part of Indian playing XI. I am a friend of Mahi since the childhood days, when nobody knew him. As far as I know him he will take his final call on retirement at the right time,” further added Banerjee.
He also raised an important point that Dhoni retired after playing 93 Test matches for the team and had he wished he could’ve easily played 100 Tests which is a milestone, but when he knew it was time he didn’t wait a day longer.
“I just want to ask a question that if Dhoni wanted to play 100 Test matches for India, he could do that, there was nobody who could have stopped him. He could still be the captain of the limited overs side but he didn’t. Dhoni always listens to his instinct. At the end of the day, he is a star performer and he always tries to give his best for the side. In the second ODI he gave Bhuvneshwar Kumar the chances to play all the shots freely, on the other hand, he just played the mentor’s role,” concluded the former coach of MS Dhoni.
