The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian squad for their tour of the United Kingdom (UK). A pool of 44 players, combining the senior and the A-team, have been selected. The senior team will play a couple of T20Is against Ireland in Dublin to start their campaign, thereafter, they will move to England for a T20I, ODI and Test series, spanning a couple of months.

The A-team will play a One-Day tri-series against the England Lions (A team) and the Windies which starts from June 22. They will also take part in three four-day games- two against the Windies A and one against the Lions. Moreover, they will also play a couple of three-day matches against the English counties. Meanwhile, the former cricketers are delighted with the selections of a 44-man squad.

“Good sign in Indian cricket” Madan Lal

Vikram Rathore, the former Indian batsman has hailed the move as beneficial for Indian cricket. “I think it’s really good. Some of them are also playing the county. And now, with a few of them travelling with India A, it will give them some time to acclimatise.

“This could be a really good idea. As the main team is travelling to England at the same time, this gives the youngsters a great opportunity. If somebody does really well, he can get a chance. You never know, there could be injuries or loss of form for a senior player,” Rathore was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Madan Lal, another former cricketer, also sounded elated by the initiative. “It has never happened. This is great. You can go there and train to get used to the conditions. It is good that so many cricketers are getting a chance. The board is trying to create a bigger pool. It is a good sign in Indian cricket,” Lal told the same media house.
