Test Cricket is a different ball game altogether than limited overs cricket. In ODIs and T20Is, batsmen tend to go for their strokes and consequently, give their wickets away. However, in Tests, batsmen can afford to bide their time and take their own time of adjustment. Rashid Khan is currently ranked number one in T20Is owing to his stupendous run of form lately.

He has been absolutely unplayable in the shortest format and batsmen haven’t had much clue against his guile and trajectory. In Afghanistan’s recent series versus Bangladesh, he picked up 8 wickets in 3 matches and emerged as the Player of the Series. The Afghans will now cross swords with India in their maiden Test match and Arun Lal, a former Indian cricketer, said that the task for Rashid won’t be easy.

“Rashid is a good bowler, but in limited-overs cricket [only] and I will be surprised if he doesn’t offer half volleys and wide deliveries while bowling for longer periods. It will be difficult for them to adjust to the new format,” Lal was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Afghanistan’s dream run

The team has had a dream run in the last one year. In 2017, they became one of the Full Member teams and were also granted Test status along with Ireland. Earlier this year, they qualified for the 2019 ICC World Cup in England and Wales. They also beat the Windies in the Final and won the Qualifiers. Subsequently, the cricketing fraternity has showered with them with accolades.

In their erstwhile T20I series versus Shakib Al Hasan’s men, they were clinical throughout. At times, they found their backs pushed to the walls, but someone or the other always put their hands up and rescued the team. However, it will be interesting to see whether they will be able to carry forward their form in white ball cricket or not.
