Adani Wilmar has halted advertisements of its Fortune Rice Bran cooking oil featuring Sourav Ganguly after the former India skipper suffered a mild cardiac arrest on Saturday. Ganguly complained of chest pain while exercising on a treadmill and had to be admitted to the Woodlands hospital in Kolkata. His condition has been stable since then.

As per The Quint, Adani Wilmar took the decision in the wake of the criticism faced on social media. The cooking oil was promoted by Ganguly as one which keeps the heart healthy. As soon as the news of Ganguly’s heart attack became public, the online trolls took to social media platforms to link it with the cooking oil and take a shot at the legendary cricketer.

Sourav Ganguly to be discharged on Wednesday

With Sourav Ganguly’s condition said to be stable, he is likely to be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Woodlands Hospital MD & CEO Dr. Rupali Basu revealed the news while interacting with the reporters on Monday. She stated that Ganguly is keeping well and the medical board decided that angioplasty would be done for two damaged coronary arteries at a later date. Ganguly’s family members were also present during the meeting.

“Our nine-member medical board met today at 11.30 am with reputed specialists on zoom platform. The consensus of the board was that deferring the angioplasty for now is deemed to be a safer option since Mr. Ganguly is stable, without any chest pain and is on optimal medical management,” Dr Basu said at the press conference.

“The family members were present during the board meeting and were explained about the disease process and further therapeutic plan,” she added.

Last week, angioplasty was done on Ganguly’s right coronary artery after he suffered a mild heart attack on Saturday. Dr. Basu said the other two damaged coronary arteries, too, need angioplasty but the doctors have decided against doing it during the current admission. Consequently, surgery has been ruled out for the time being.
