Touted as the future superstar of Indian cricket, Ishan Kishan turned 24 on Monday (July 18). The young wicketkeeper-batter came into the limelight in the year 2016, when he made his debut for the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League. His run at the IPL looked like a dream when the teams fought at the 2018 auction to get him on their side. In the end, Mumbai Indians won the bid and roped him in for INR 6.2 crore.

The southpaw quickly made a name for himself as a solid wicketkeeper-batter in the side and became a key member of the team soon. In the recent season of the cash-rich event, Mumbai bagged his services for a whopping INR 15.25 crore after winning the bidding war against Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans.

His form faltered through the middle of the competition after a strong start to the 2018 edition, but there were still standout performances, such as his lightning-quick 21-ball 62 against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he smashed Kuldeep Yadav for four back-to-back sixes. Although he may not have been very consistent, he still managed to complete the season with a fantastic strike rate of close to 150. As a result of his steadily increasing success in the IPL, Kishan was able to make his international debut in March 2021.

A dream start to his international journey

Kishan first represented India against England in the second match of the T20I series that happened in Ahmedabad last year. He took the opening slot in the game alongside the stylish batter KL Rahul and went on to display a fine performance by hitting a half-century in his first ever outing. His knock in the top order and his partnership with Virat Kohli helped Team India win the game.

His ODI debut came on this day, last year as he rejoiced his 23rd birthday with a win against Sri Lanka at Colombo. It looked like Kishan had a tradition of notching up a half-century on debut, as the left-handed batter walked out to bat in the top-order at No. 3 and scored a 42-ball 59, contributing to India’s winning cause.

The rising star will next be seen in the blues in the upcoming tour of West Indies, where he has been included in both the ODIs and the T20Is squads. Meanwhile, let us have a look at some special wishes from netizens for the youngster on his special day.
