Virat Kohli’s captaincy has come under the spotlight after reports emerged that the 32-year-old did not behave in a proper manner with some senior players in the Indian Test team. And now, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has offered his thoughts on the same.

Kaneria feels that Virat Kohli’s captaincy stint is in a dilemma, as the top bosses of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah, will not tolerate indiscipline.

Adding that Ganguly and Shah will not see the status of a player, Kaneria added that the BCCI President will treat every player in the same way, unlike what happens in Pakistan.

“Virat Kohli’s captaincy is in a dilemma because BCCI’s top bosses in Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah won’t tolerate indiscipline towards anybody. They won’t see if he is a big-ticket player and treat everyone the same way. Unlike Pakistan, where there are such concerns, I don’t think it happens in India because a top-notch cricketer is the BCCI president.

He (Ganguly) changed Indian cricket and he won’t see different players in different ways. Thus, I trust the BCCI to ensure that in future no player behaves roughly with their teammates,” said Danish Kaneria on his YouTube channel.

Misbehaving with your own players is unacceptable: Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria also added that while Virat Kohli’s aggressive nature is known to all, he should not have misbehaved with his own teammates. Adding that Kohli should take a leaf out of MS Dhoni’s book by backing his players, Kaneria concluded by stating that Kohli should handle the Indian players carefully, with the T20 World Cup coming up in October.

“Virat Kohli’s aggression while captaining is a known thing, but misbehaving with your own players isn’t acceptable. He needs to follow the culture set by MS Dhoni. MS Dhoni dragged the players along with him despite win or loss by backing them. Hence, with the T20 World Cup looming and with Ravichandran Ashwin also part of the squad, Kohli must handle things carefully,” concluded Danish Kaneria.

Danish Kaneria played 61 Tests and 19 ODIs for Pakistan. While he prized out 261 willow wielders in Tests, he picked up 15 wickets in ODI cricket.
