Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir has been tested positive for COVID-19. The cricketer-turned-politician took to Twitter on Tuesday (January 25) and informed about the same. Gambhir stated that he underwent the test after feeling mild symptoms and subsequently tested positive. He further urged everyone, who came in his contact in recent days, to get tested. His tweet went viral in no time as ‘Get well soon’ wishes poured in from different quarters.
Gambhir enjoyed a gala time in international cricket as he was part of some of India’s greatest wins across formats. He, in fact, played match-winning knocks in the finals of 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup, playing a vital role in taking India to glory. He also was instrumental in making India the top-ranked Test team under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
After retiring from professional cricket in 2018, Gambhir started his new innings in the field of politics. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and won from the East Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections. He has now established himself as a party face in the national capital.
Coming to Gambhir’s post, he urged everyone to stay safe in these uncertain times. “After experiencing mild symptoms, I tested positive for COVID today. Requesting everyone who came into my contact to get themselves tested,” he tweeted.

Gautam Gambhir named mentor of Lucknow Super Giants
Notably, Gambhir didn’t end his association with cricket after retiring as a play. He has been an active commentator and analyst, and is known for speaking his mind. Meanwhile, Gambhir has been roped is as the mentor of the Lucknow-based franchise ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Lucknow is one of the two new franchises in the competition alongside Ahmedabad and Gambhir would want to see his side getting the glory.
The Super Giants will be led by KL Rahul, who has been one of the most consistent performers in the tournament. Gambhir also has high expectations from him.
“No brainer when it comes to KL Rahul, not just as a batter but as a leader as well. Obviously, it’s a work in progress, but he gives you three things — he opens the batting, he can keep wickets and he is a phenomenal white-ball batter, his consistency and his run-scoring has been phenomenal when he has played for Punjab and other franchises and what better than having someone who gives you 3 things,” Gambhir had told Star Sports.
