The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has taken a major step to renovate the Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad. The stadium, popularly known as the ‘Motera’ stadium, will be reconstructed to become the largest cricket stadium in the world. In a recent event at Ahmedabad on Thursday, the GCA Vice President Parimal Nathwani handed over the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to L&T Director M.V. Sathish.

Nathwani later took to his social media handle to officially announce the news. He wrote, “Extremely happy that on behalf of #GCA #LoA to construct world’s largest #CricketStadium #Motera #Ahmedabad handed over to @Larsen_Tourbro.” the construction is expected to undergo straightaway with the demolishing of the existing ground and creation of the revamped one.

The current stadium capacity of Motera is of 55,000. After the reconstruction is done, the capacity is expected to boost up to 90,000. This will make Motera Stadium come in line with the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia in terms of spectator capacity. The completion of the project will make Motera stadium the largest cricket ground in the world.

The project is a part of the vision of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Modi has been taking giant strides in making India a top flavour in every domain of development. Under the guidance of GCA Chief and BJP National President Shri Amit Shah, the renovation work is ready to go underway. The GCA Vice President and Member of Parliament Shri. Parimal Nathwani made the official handling of the LoA to L&T on December 8 at a ceremonial event. The office bearers of the GCA and L&T were present at the ceremony. Mr. Nathwani expressed his happiness on the project.

The project is set to be a landmark event in the history of GCA and cricket world. The venue will have two practice grounds adjacent to it. A place for playing football is also planned to be set up in the vicinity of the Motera stadium. A training club, GCA Club, is also expected to be set up at the venue. When the venture finally gets completed, it will enter the record books as the largest cricket stadium in the world.
