George Bailey is having a good outing on the turning tracks at the in Sri Lanka, where most of his fellow teammates struggled to fight it out. Australia has won the ODI series and his knocks have been crucial in knocking off the home side.

Bailey was not selected for the Test series, which Australia lost 3-0 against Sri Lanka. The Australian’s didn’t have a good time in the longest version of the game in the sub-continent in the recent past, having lost 9 consecutive matches in Asia in a row now.

Australia is all set to enforce the ‘horses for courses’ approach in the selection of the squad for sub-continent tours. With the tour to India coming up, they will be well aware of employing spin-specialist batsmen in the side.

Bailey’s Tasmanian state coach Dan Marsh is impressed with his batting and said that if Australia is looking for someone who can play spin, Bailey will surely feature in the squad. “If they’re looking for someone who can play spin well in the subcontinent, I’m sure he’s got his name up there. That’s what driving George. He wants to play Test cricket again. It’s the ultimate test and he wants to get back there.”

He has played only 5 Tests for Australia so far and he hasn’t been able to make an impression as he averages just above 26. All the 5 Test matches were against England in the 2013-14 whitewash of England. But, for someone who averages 42 in One Day International (ODI) cricket surely needs more opportunities in the longest version of the game, especially in the sub-continent.

Australia will play the last ODI match of the series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday and follow it up with 2 T20Is.
