Glenn Maxwell has gone on to become one of the most valuable players for Australia in limited-overs cricket ever since his international debut in 2012. He was an integral part of the Aussies’ two world title triumphs- the 2015 ODI World Cup on home soil and the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

While Maxwell has succeeded in making a mark for himself in the Australian white-ball squad with his power-hitting techniques in the middle order and the ability to provide vital breakthroughs with his right-arm off-breaks, he has not been able to replicate similar performances in Test cricket.

The all-rounder has come forward and said that he wishes to revive his red-ball career, and his ultimate aim is to play in the four-match Test series in India early next year.

I was just genuinely disappointed: Glenn Maxwell on his Test exclusion during the Sri Lanka series

“I was shattered when I got told. It wasn’t that I thought they made the wrong call, I was just genuinely disappointed”, said Glenn Maxwell while speaking to ESPNCricinfo. “I really wanted to play. I loved being a part of it [Test cricket], and I loved the thought of playing again”, he added.

“Last year I had a preseason at Junction Oval, where we would use the same pitches, maybe four or five net sessions in a row and by the fifth net session they were basically India,” the Australian all-rounder further added.

Maxwell was a part of the Australia squad that had toured India for a Test series in the 2016/17 season. He scored a brilliant 104 in the third game at Ranchi which eventually ended in a stalemate and kept the four-match series alive 1-1.

The Victoria cricketer has played only seven Tests for Australia since his debut in 2013 and had managed just 339 runs averaging 26.08 and also has eight wickets to his name at an economy of 4.43. Maxwell has not been in the scheme of things in the longest format since September 2017.

Glenn Maxwell was in line for selection in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. He was all set to make a comeback in the opening game at Galle, but could not make it after Travis Head cleared his fitness test and was available for selection.
