The Indian cricket team finally resumed international duties with an ODI series against Australia on November 27, Friday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Australian batting line-up was on fire today as most of the batters looked in touch and had come on the field with an intent to start hitting from the very first ball. Meanwhile, the tremendous form of all-rounder Glenn Maxwell left the viewers in shock as he had a disastrous run in the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The toss went Aaron Finch’s way and he sent the Men in Blue to bowl first. Batting first, skipper Finch and David Warner stitched a remarkable opening stand as they collected 156 runs in 27.5 overs. Though the two batters had a slow start, they kept the scoreboard ticking by smartly stealing single or doubles. Indian players are also to be blamed for this as they looked extremely sloppy on the field.

India finally got its first breakthrough in the 28th over as Warner lost his wicket to Mohammed Shami while playing at 69. However, Indian bowlers had no time to relax as then walked in Steve Smith and he started smashing the ball all over the park. Smith and Finch then smashed 108 runs in 12 overs. Jasprit Bumrah finally scalped a wicket in the 40th over to send back in-form Finch back to the pavilion. Meanwhile, the skipper had already done his job as he smashed a stunning century (114 off 124).

Finch was soon followed by all-rounder Marcus Stoinis who bagged a golden duck. India was looking for a comeback in the game but Maxwell had other ideas. Many questions were raised on Maxwell after a torrid IPL 2020 but he managed to shut the mouth of critics by smashing 45 runs off 19 deliveries at a strike rate of 236.84. Smith also scored a scintillating century to help his team post a mammoth total of 374 on the board.

Maxwell’s innings left the cricket fans in bewilderment as they couldn’t help but compare it with his runs in IPL. While playing against India, Maxwell hit three maximums in the first ODI only, he failed to smash a single six in the 13 matches he played in the Indian league. His figures in IPL 2020 read 108 runs in 13 games at a poor strike rate of 101.88 for franchise Kings XI Punjab. Soon after his heroics against India, the all-rounder started trending on Twitter and became an easy target for the trollers and memers.
