Yuvraj Singh retired from international cricket back in May and that freed him to play franchise T20 cricket across the globe. The southpaw is currently plying his trade in the second edition of the Global T20 Canada. He is the skipper of the Toronto Nationals and has been fabulous with the bat in hand, though his team has gone through quite a few stutters in the T20 tournament.
The veteran is currently the Nationals’ leading run-scorer in the league, having churned out 145 runs in four matches at an average of 36.25. He had a tough time in the opening encounter and played a strike-rate of around 50. However, he even has been able to up his scoring rate and has a strike-rate of 151.04. On Saturday, the left-hander showed his class against the Brampton Wolves.
Yuvraj Singh dominates with the bat
The Wolves, who are yet to lose a match in the tournament, batted first and put up a massive score of 222 in their allotted 20 overs. In the run-chase, Singh came to bat after Abraash Khan castled the swashbuckling Brendon McCullum. At that point in time, the National’s score was 75 in seven overs. In the first ball of the very next over, Yuvraj lost Moises Henriques to Shahid Afridi.
Yuvraj didn’t throw in the towel and stitched together a partnership of 75 runs along with Heinrich Klaasen in 44 balls. He took on the bowling from the outset as the required rate was climbing at an alarming rate. Yuvraj accomplished his half-century in 21 deliveries and kept the Nationals’ alive in the game. Prior to that, leg-spinner Ish Sodhi nipped out the ominous-looking Klaasen.
But after the very next ball he scored his fifty, Nawab Singh removed him. It was a massive jolt for the Nationals as they still needed 54 runs off 27 balls. Yuvraj’s team eventually finished on 211 in 20 overs and lost the encounter by 11 runs. The side is currently placed in the fifth spot of the table. In the meantime, Twitter was happy with how Yuvraj played and the fans praised him.
