Ravi Shastri had made his debut for India in 1981 and went on to play for the country until 1992. After this, he entered the industry of broadcasting. After spending a lot of years in the commentary box and having called several famous moments, he turned to mentor the Indian team. He was the director of cricket from 2014 and held the position till 2016.

After a year, he was brought on as the head coach after Anil Kumble resigned as the coach of the Indian team. Under Shastri’s coaching, India has been very successful at home and in overseas conditions. India, in recent years, has won ODI and T20I series in South Africa and New Zealand, countries where they hadn’t had a great record over the years.

India also beat Australia in consecutive Test series in Australia. Recently, India had won the historic Border Gavaskar Test series under tremendous pressure. This made several experts praise Shastri for helping the side not lose motivation even after the injuries within the team.

India is currently playing the first Test against England in Chennai. After the first two days, England is still batting on 555 for eight and they haven’t declared yet.
