Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have experienced similar fortunes in the recent past. The Tigers have been pounded by South Africa recently in a Test, ODI and T20I series. Zimbabwe slumped to an innings defeat in the inaugural four-day Test against the Proteas. Sri Lanka haven’t had much to cheer either as they slumped to series drubbings at the hands of India.

All the three teams will be itching to make amends and win the upcoming One Day International tri-series that begins on the 15th of January at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The first game will be played between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and the series is expected to be a closely-fought affair. Graeme Cremer, leg-spinner and the captain, feels that all three teams have equal opportunities to lift the cup.

An exciting tri-series in store

“I think it is not ideal but we have all played in Dhaka enough, the conditions won’t be too different than what we have seen in the past. A couple of sessions [Saturday] and [Sunday], we will have a fielding session under lights [Saturday]; it will be new for our younger guys but for our more experienced guys it shouldn’t be an issue. Those are the guys who will look to win us games,” Creamer told the media during Zimbabwe’s arrival press conference.

The 31-year old leggie also said that every team in the tournament is unique and believes that the level of fielding will decide the eventual winners. “I think it is very close to call about who can win the series. Each team have their ways of playing one-day cricket, all three teams have good spinners. I think it will come down to which team field the best; I think it is close to call. Each team, on their day, can beat one another. It will be a very good tri-series, I think,” Creamer added

All three teams have had the resources to get the better of oppositions. However, they have underperformed and haven’t lived up to potential. Nevertheless, the series comes as an opportunity for them to turn their fortunes around and garner back momentum into their cricket.
