Indian U19 cricketer Shubman Gill received one of the biggest surprises of his life when he got a call from the BCCI on Saturday. The 19-year-old Gill along with middle-order batsman Manish Pandey was called into the Indian team in place of Hanuma Vihari and Mohammed Siraj.
The decision was taken so that the duo could participate in the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Gill, who was drafted into the team in place of Vihari thought that it was a prank call initially. However, he eventually realised that it wasn’t and shared his experiences of his time with the team.
Shubman Gill names Virat Kohli as his favourite cricketer
The Punjab cricketer joined the Indian team on Sunday. Although he was just there to be a substitute fielder, it was indeed a huge occasion for him. He noted that it was a great feeling. Also, he added that he hoped to learn a lot from the seniors and said that being in the Indian dressing room by itself is a big thing.
“It is a great feeling. To be a part of the Indian dressing room itself is a big thing and I hope to learn a lot from the seniors,” Shubman told Sportstar.
One of the important members in the U19 World Cup triumph earlier this year, Gill revealed that he is a huge fan of Virat Kohli. He said that he is willing to learn a thing or two from the Indian captain. Furthermore, he said he was looking forward to having a talk with him.
“He is my favourite cricketer and I really look up to him. I will try and learn a few things from him when I get to meet him. I am really looking forward to it,” he said. With the game ending in just three days, he will have the additional free time to have a word with the 29-year-old.
Gill concluded by saying that he will cherish the time spent with the Indian team. He further added that it will boost his confidence for the upcoming Ranji Trophy.
“With the Ranji Trophy coming in, I want to deliver the goods for Punjab and play to my strength. These few days with the Indian team will certainly boost my confidence. I want to soak in every moment of it,” he said.
