Gujarat Cricket Association confirms Donald Trump will not inaugurate the Motera Stadium

The Motera Stadium of Ahmedabad has been in the news after the work for the world’s largest stadium culminated a few days ago. While the stadium is still not ready to host a cricket match, the Motera stadium will soon be hosting the ‘Namaste Trump’ event where US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will showcase the friendship between India and the United States of America.

Earlier, it was speculated that Donald Trump will inaugurate the grand stadium in Ahmedabad on 24th February however, contrary to reports, BCCI pointed out that they had not been informed about any such developments. Later, it was learned that the rumors were false and now, Gujarat Cricket Association has issued a statement regarding the same.

Will inaugurate the stadium later: GCA Vice President 

Gujarat Cricket Association’s Vice President, Dhanraj Nathwani interacted with the media ahead of the ‘Namaste Trump’ event and when asked about the opening of Motera stadium, he was quoted as follows by Hindustan Times, “This event’s name is Namaste Trump. It is meant for hosting US President Donald Trump. We will inaugurate the stadium later.”

In case you did not know, several reports have suggested that an Indian personality will inaugurate the new stadium in Ahmedabad because Motera is every Indian’s pride. Earlier, this stadium was supposed to host a match between Asia XI and World XI however, the stadium will take more time to host any match. It was even reported that the stadium in Ahmedabad will play the host to this year’s IPL finale however, even that report proved to be just a rumor.

Day-night Test between India and England in 2021

Besides, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had confirmed that the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad will host a game between India and England where the two rivals will compete in a pink ball Test match. It is likely that the venue will be inaugurated just before this Test match. It will be intriguing to see who is chosen as the one to open this grand stadium. The Test match will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship.
