Gujarat Lions players, who are currently in Mohali, faced a rush-rush moment after they had to immediately evacuate their team hotel because of the earthquake tremors. Lions fast bowler Dale Steyn and opener Aaron Finch tweeted about the incident.

Steyn said, “Just felt the tremors of an earthquake in Mohali. Evacuated out the hotel, boys are a little “shaken.”

Aaron Finch didn’t looked worried. He tweeted, “Just a quick earthquake evacuation in Mohali!!”

The franchise’s official Twitter handle also tweeted about the incident. It said, “Earthquake tremors felt in parts of North India including Mohali. Our players have been evacuated from their hotel. No casualties!”

The Gujarat Lions team is set to meet Kings XI Punjab at Mohali tomorrow and had reached the venue quite early to prepare for their IPL debut match.

The tremors were felt in Mohali due to an earthquake which shook the remote northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border on Sunday with a magnitude of 6.6. The effect of strong earthquake was strong and its effect was felt in the northern Indian states of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Punjab where multi stories building shook, scaring the residents. Bo casualties have been reported till now but further reports about the situation in the earthquake hit areas are awaited

The epicenter of earthquake was in Hindu Kush mountain range, the National Centre for Seismology said. The US Geological Survey said the quake was centred near Chitral in Pakistan at a depth of 210km (130 miles).

Strong tremors were felt in Afghanistan as well, news agency ANI reported. There was no immediate report of casualties. In Delhi, metro services were temporarily halted after the jolts. People ran out of their houses and assembled in open areas.
