Gurunath Meiyappan has finally broken the shackles and has emerged on social media for the first time since the 2013 IPL betting scandal. Son-in-law of Chennai Super Kings owner N. Srinivasan, Meiyappan was the heart of the disgraceful act in the year of 2013.
Following the verdict in 2014, Chennai Super Kings were suspended from the Indian Premier League along with the Rajasthan Royals. Gurunath had to keep away from the media for more than 3 years in order to hide his face after the shameful incident was confirmed.
The blame on Gurunath Meiyappan also resulted in the decline of N. Srinivasan leading to the formation of the Justice Lodha panel and reforms.
The main story:
In reply to a tweet by former Chennai Super Kings player and coach Stephen Fleming, Meiyappan made a sudden appearance on social media platform Twitter. Gurunath’s response to Fleming’s tweet asked the Kiwi to forget the past and focus on next year’s IPL which will be the 11th edition of the lucrative league.
Past is history Flem. We have a bigger battle next year.

Chennai Super Kings are all set to return along with the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018, after serving a 2-year ban. Stephen Fleming and Mahendra Singh Dhoni who were in charge of the Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL’s iconic 10th edition as the coach and the skipper respectively are likely to return to their previous team, Chennai Super Kings.
While the 2-time champions CSK were suspended for just two years, Gurunath Meiyappan faced a lifetime ban. The ban was imposed on him by the Supreme Court appointed Justice Lodha Panel. Gurunath also interacted with former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris who has been a part of IPL teams like the Deccan Chargers and the Chennai Super Kings.
With the inclusion of CSK and RR in next year’s IPL, the Rising Pune Supergiant and the Gujarat Lions will have to make way for them.
