'Happy Birthday Comeback King' - Netizens wish Dinesh Karthik on his 37th birthday

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik turned 37 on June 1 (Wednesday). Over the years, the right-handed batter from Tamil Nadu has played some spectacular knocks for whichever team he has represented. To note, Karthik had an excellent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with the bat.

As a result, the senior batter has been recalled to the Indian side after a wait of almost three years. Karthik will be seen in action during the five-match T20I series against South Africa, slated to start on June 9. To note, the right-handed batter played his last T20I match against Australia in February 2019.

Dinesh Karthik made his international debut in 2004

The 37-year-old made his international debut against England way back in 2004. Karthik showed his capabilities during the early stage of his career. However, after the introduction of veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni to the team, Karthik was given limited opportunities, but he performed whenever he got the chance. He last played for India in the 2019 World Cup and many reckoned then that Karthik would not don the India jersey ever again.

Moreover, the right-handed batter started working as a commentator and panel expert. However, the veteran batter turned things around during IPL 2022. After getting released by the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the right-handed batter was purchased by RCB during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

Coming to bat in the end overs, the dasher played some excellent knocks for his new franchise. Karthik scored a total of 330 runs in 16 innings at an excellent strike rate of 183.33. He was also adjudged IPL 2022 ‘Super Striker of the Season’. To note, this was the first time that an Indian player has bagged the award. Before that, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, and Shimron Hetmyer were named the ‘Super Striker of the Season’.

In the T20I format, Karthik has represented India in 32 matches and has scored 399 runs at an excellent strike rate of 143.53. The senior batter has also represented India in 94 ODIs and 26 Tests. The right-handed batter will now want to perform well for the Men in Blue and get selected for the all-important 2022 T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year.
