Harbhajan Singh added to the ODI squad after Ashwin suffers side strain injury: Indian “Turbanator” Harbhajan Singh has been added to the ODI squad after Ashwin suffered a side strain injury during the 1st ODI versus South Africa. Ashwin has been in sublime form off late, as he troubled the African batsmen time and again with his variations. The veteran off-spinner last played an ODI against Zimbabwe in July 2015, where he picked up 2 wickets for 35 runs. Harbhajan Singh was part of the T20 squad which played South Africa recently. He played the second T20 and finished with figures of 0/20.

The BCCI stated in its press release on bcci.tv – “After making a detailed assessment of the injury, the BCCI medical team will confirm the time frame required for Ashwin to fully recovery from the injury.

Harbhajan Singh has been included in the Indian squad, and will join the team before the second match of the series in Indore”.

Harbhajan Singh would like to grab this opportunity with both hands. The Indian spinner has picked up 263 wickets in 232 ODI at an average of 33.31 at an economy of 4.29. India will look to bank on Harbhajan’s experience to counter the African threat. South Africa sweeped the T20 series 2-0, as India failed to deliver in the bowling facet. With the inclusion of Harbhajan Singh, India now have an option along with Mishra. India will host South Africa in the 2nd ODI at Indore on October 14.
