The former and current Indian cricketers are trying their best to help the Government and the poor and the needy people during the Coronavirus pandemic. While many have duly donated to the PM CARES and CM Relief Funds, few have taken care of the on ground families who are struggling due to nationwide lockdown. Now Harbhajan Singh and his wife and Bollywood actress Geeta Basra have come forward to help the families in Jalandhar.

The couple, on Sunday, announced that they will be distributing ration to 5000 families in Jalandhar and play their part in helping the poor people during these crisis times. Interestingly, Harbhajan is currently staying in Mumbai and has been coordinating with his close friends in Jalandhar to help the people. He has also spoken to Punjab Police regarding the same and his friends will be doing the job on behalf of him.

“I used to live in Daulatpuri earlier. My close friends today completed distribution of dry ration to 500 families in that area. I have personally spoken to DC (Punjab Police) Jalandhar. My team of friends will be following his instructions and accordingly food packets will be distributed,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Earlier, on Sunday, the 39-year-old also took to Twitter to let his fans and followers know about the noble cause and prayed to God for the well being of everyone.

I can’t see my own people suffer, says Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh will be distributing 5 kg of rice, flour, oil and other essential ingredients which are required for daily survival. The cricketer also informed that he will continue to feed the needy people until normalcy returns. “We are distributing 5kg of rice, flour, oil and other essential cooking ingredients. This endeavour will continue for the time being.

“I am still very attached to Jalandhar as I divide my time between Mumbai and Jalandhar. A part of me resides there and I can’t see my own people suffer. Cricket has given me a lot and this is the least I could do. I wanted to ensure that if I am able to help, it should reach people directly and thanks to Punjab Police and my childhood friends, we have started off well. But a lot of work still needs to be done,” the off-spinner further added.
