Five workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena were arrested today for allegedly assaulting a north-Indian fruit seller in suburban Ghatkopar after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The video angered many around the country who are tired of such unnecessary act of violence including the Indian off-spinner. Reportedly, the vendors were not being allowed to sell their produce in the open market at Amrut Nagar in Ghatkopar.
In the video circulated on social media, a group of six to seven activists were purportedly seen slapping and abusing the vendor in Amrut Nagar area of the suburb. They also upturned his cart.
MNS Chief Raj Thackeray said that it was mere coincidence that the vendor turned out to be a North Indian. MNC party leader in the BMC, Sandeep Deshpande expressed no regrets and said, “We then had to make them understand in a way they could understand.

Bhimdev Rathod, assistant commissioner of police, in the Ghatkopar division, rubbished any connection to the migrants’ issue. He said, “The issue does not pertain to migrants. The fruit seller and few other women appealed to the farmer to park his vehicle a bit ahead after which there was an altercation between them,” he says in the report.
