Veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has recently remarked that the ongoing reported rift between coach Anil Kumble and Indian skipper Virat Kohli needs to end. He believes that it will be in the best interest of the Indian team to see both big heads sit and work together. As per the quotes in the India Today, Harbhajan noted that he has known both players for a long time now.
He believes they are mature individuals to sort out the differences. Harbhajan Singh had a subtle hint indicating that the rumors might well be a little exaggerated. He quoted that Anil Kumble is the ideal man for the role of the Indian coach. Kumble is someone who always thinks in the best interest of the Indian cricket team. Hence, there is absolutely no question over his credentials as the head coach.
“I have known Kumble for so many years and he is the most ideal man. I always go to him whenever I need any advice. He has interest if Indian cricket is on his mind and I know Virat as well. Both are very mature individuals,” quoted Harbhajan Singh.
He further added that it is very unlikely that there is an actual rift between the two. The members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) have spoken to both individuals and hence things are expected to be sorted out by now. The team wants Kohli and Kumble to be together.
“I don’t think Virat or Kumble will have any problems with each other. If people like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman have spoken to them, then it’s the best. This is not the time for any clash and the team needs them together. Cricket should remain on top. If there are any issues, they should resolve them after the Champions Trophy,” he added.
The matter
Earlier, there were rumors of rift between Kumble and Kohli. The BCCI invited applications for the post of the new head coach of the Indian team. This only aggravated the entire issue and the claims of their rift was strengthened. However, the CAC – comprising Ganguly, Tendulkar and Laxman – has stressed that the Indian management sticks to Anil Kumble as the coach.
