Veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh is a very lively personality. He likes to keep things easy and always carries a smile on his face. He is very helpful in nature. No wonder why he ended up helping a long lost friend recently. Harman Harry, an old friend of Harbhajan, who had played U16 cricket with Harbhajan in Punjab, was facing a serious medical illness. He needed a surgery but had no money with him.

He contacted Harbhajan to help him. As per the reports in India Today, Harbhajan Singh did not waste any time and spoke to the doctors rightaway. He helped Harman by assuring him that all financial costs will be taken care of. He spent almost INR 2.5 Lakh on the operation of his friend.

“He (Harman) somehow contacted me and told me about the trauma he was going through. He (Harman) somehow contacted me and told me about the trauma he was going through. I had told him to forget about money and go ahead with his surgery from a well-equipped hospital and good experienced doctor,” Harbhajan Singh quoted.

Needed a surgery

After running from one hospital to the other, Harman Harry finally got operated at the Rathi Hospital in Nangloi. The owner of the hospital remarked that the patient had a deteriorating condition and desperately needed a surgery to fix things back. Apparently, he had undergone a surgery for appendix. The doctors had left his intestines open which triggered the entire problem.

“His situation was deteriorating and he needed surgery. His was a case of perforation peritonitis and enterocutaneous fistula (abnormal connection that develops between the intestinal tract or stomach and the skin. As a result, contents of the stomach or intestines leak through the skin),” said Ankur Rathi, who owns the hospital.

Harman thanks Harbhajan Singh

Now, Harman is feeling much better and is out of danger. He remarked that he will always be indebted to his friend, Harbhajan Singh. He thanked Harbhajan for everything that he did for him in times of crisis. He, however, added that the financial crisis still persists. But he hopes to get things back on track soon.

“I will remain indebted to him for life. He has proved what true friendship means. I had no money left with me, having spent all my savings on treatment in the last one year. Harbhajan came as an angel and has pulled me out from the jaws of death,” Harman said. “I am doing well now, but I still need money for the medicines. Hopefully, that problem will also be resolved,” he added.
