Shaun Marsh was the standout performer for Australia in the third Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. However, the fact that the Aussies managed to stitch an important and the highest partnership in the context of the series was also something that ensured that the Aussies were able to counter their critics who said that they could not play spin well.

Shaun Marsh was joined by his skipper Steve Smith who also played the spin immaculately well to notch up yet another Test ton. The duo would go on to account for almost 70 percent of the runs scored by the Australians in the first innings.

Speaking about his batting performance, Marsh added that he worked hard, had a good partnership and was indeed pleased with his performance. Marsh also went on to add that he tried to play with a straight bat. “It was hard work out there. I had a good partnership with the captain and really happy,” Marsh gushed. “I was trying to play with a straight bat. If it spun past me, so be it. It was really challenging out there. It’s going to go deep into the fourth-fifth day, so it’s going to be very challenging for us.

“I haven’t tried to focus on that (time away from the team) too much. I was just focusing on my job. It’s great to be back playing Test cricket for Australia. To be out here today was a lot of fun.”

Speaking about the overall position of the Test match a the moment, Marsh stated that the match was evenly poised. “It’s pretty evenly balanced at the moment,” he pointed out. “First session will be key tomorrow. We will try and get some early wickets tomorrow and try and keep them down to as low as possible. We would have liked a few more but we have to play well tomorrow now.”
