Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul wouldn’t even thought in their wildest of dreams that one Koffee with Karan show will ruin their career. Not that they are in trouble for appearing in the talk show. But their misogynist comments, especially the former’s, have come under the scanner and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended them. Moreover, the duo is heading back home from Australia to face the inquiry.
The BCCI has convened the six-member panel to probe into the matter and the cricketers will face soon after coming back to India according to News 18. Both of them have now effectively been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia. After lack of directives from the BCCI, only a few hours ago, Team India had not considered them for the selection of the first ODI in Sydney.
Vinod Rai’s statement
“Both Pandya and Rahul have been suspended pending an inquiry,” Vinod Rai was quoted as saying by the Times of India. Earlier, the CoA, especially Diana Edulji had sought for a legal opinion on the matter after Rai himself had recommended for the two-match ban on Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.
“Taking into account the relevant rules of the BCCI and considering that the inquiry process against the concerned players has commenced and is pending, it is open for the COA to suspend the concerned players (along with their privileges and benefits) pending enquiry and proceeding into the charges of misconduct until final adjudication. The suspension will however cease, if the said adjudication is not completed within six months,” legal cell’s reply to the CoA read.
With the duo returning home, they are effectively ruled out of the ODI series against Australia it seems. It will also be interesting to see if the BCCI names any replacements for them with the team set to travel New Zealand as well soon after the series.
