Playing Test cricket for your country is considered the ultimate goal for aspiring cricketers, and that goal is one step away from being achieved for Hardik Pandya. The Indian players were getting headshots in their new Oppo white jerseys on Tuesday ‘ahead of the first Test at the Galle International Stadium on Wednesday and the Indian all-rounder was among the ones to express the joy of wearing the whites.

Taking to Twitter, Pandya posted a photo in the jersey and expressed his anticipation for the upcoming challenge in his career. His 76-run knock in the Champions Trophy final opened room for new perceptions about him and added to his inclusion in the Test squad yet again.

The 23-year-old tweeted saying, “What better to live moments which i often fantasized as a growing kid! The Paramount to represent India in whites.”

Test debut on the cards?

He earned a Test call-up long back but is yet to take the field in the long format but after skipper Virat Kohli hinted at the possibility of him playing in the first Test, owing to his flexibility with both the bat and the ball. In the press conference ahead of the Galle Test, Kohli emphasized the need for an all-rounder when playing in Sri Lanka. His reminder that Stuart Binny was very handy in the two Tests he played in the 2015 tour is a strong indication of Kohli’s plans for the first Test.

“Last time, we felt we probably were a batsman short and the fifth bowler did not do much in the game. We have those options again, but we have great balance in the side as well. We have got a guy like Hardik Pandya, who is a wicket-taking bowler. Every game that he plays, on any surface, he has a knack of picking wickets. He has a great chance of playing as well,” Kohli explained.
