India women’s T20 team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has become the latest high-profile name from the game to test positive for COVID-19. The batting superstar is also experiencing mild symptoms after contracting the dreaded virus. Harmanpreet had developed a mild fever and decided to get herself tested on Monday.

The 32-year old was recently seen in action earlier this month when India hosted South Africa for five ODIs and three T20Is in Lucknow. Harmanpreet played in all the five ODIs and scored 160 runs at an average of more than 53. India, however, had lost the series 1-4. The right-handed batter then missed the T20I series due to an injury she had picked during the fifth ODI.

And just a few days after the completion of the series against South Africa, Harmanpreet tested positive for COVID-19. According to reports, she was experiencing mild symptoms from four days before she decided to get herself tested this week. A source close to the India star stated that she is doing fine at the moment and would recover soon.

“She is self-isolating at home. She got tested yesterday and the report came positive today morning. She had mild fever since four days so thought it was best to get tested. She is doing fine otherwise and should recover soon,” the source was quoted as saying by Firstpost.

“She was getting tested regularly during the South Africa series so she must have caught the virus after that only,” the source added.

Big names test positive

Harmanpreet Kaur is not the only big name from Indian cricketer to have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent times. Recently, several former India cricketers tested positive after participating in the Road Safety World Series. The first man to test positive was none other than the legendary Sachin Tendulkar who was leading India Legends in the tournament.

Middle-order batsman Subramaniam Badrinath also contracted the virus. Recently, Pathan brothers – Yusuf and Irfan – also announced that they have tested positive. All four players were recently in Raipur for the tournament. Last year, the likes of Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Karun Nair were some of the big names who had contracted the virus.
