Pakistani pacer Hasan Ali took the cricketing fraternity by storm during the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy. In the prestigious tournament, the Men in Green came from nowhere to become the champions. Ali played a crucial role in Pakistan‘s triumph at the event for the first time. The right-arm medium pacer from Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab also earned himself the Player of the Tournament award.

Over the course of the tournament, Ali picked up 13 wickets. Coincidentally, his record matches exactly with that of former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi. The 23-year-old is the second cricketer from the nation to receive the Player of the Tournament award in a major ICC event. Boom Boom Afridi was the first Pakistani to get the award in an ICC event. He achieved the feat way back in 2007 in the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup.

However, Afridi led team was defeated in the final by MS Dhoni’s men who lifted the trophy. But Hasan’s contribution helped Pakistan simply outclassed Virat Kohli & Co. in England.

Two sides of the same coin?

Hasan Ali and Shahid Afridi has another thing common in their records. Again a coincidence, Afridi picked up the same number of wickets in ICC T20 World Cup as Hasan did in ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Ten years later after Afridi’s stellar performance, Ali recorded similar figures as the former Pakistani all-rounder.

Hasan Ali joins Comilla Victorians

After his exceptional performance in the ‘mini World Cup,’ many franchises from different T20 leagues across the world are trying to pin down his signature. One such successful team is Comilla Victorians. Comilla plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Hasan’s national team mates Fahim Ashraf, Shoaib Malik and Imran Khan Jr will join him at Comilla. “It will be my first appearance in a foreign T20 league and I am very happy about this,” said Hasan.
