Haseeb Hameed has always been a Virat Kohli fan

English cricket found a new teen sensation in Haseeb Hameed. On a tough Indian tour, when most batsmen struggled, Haseeb Hameed showed great character with the bat. He had an impressive start to his Test career as he hit 82 in the second innings of the Rajkot Test. He injured his finger in the third Test but still turned up to bat in the second innings for England.

Batting with a broken finger, Haseeb Hameed showed great character as he scored a fighting 59. Although England ended up losing the Mohali Test, Hameed had won hearts. He was ruled out for the remainder of the series but had won a lot of hearts. One of the players who was mighty impressed with the young opener was Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Kohli was in full awe of Hameed as he remarked that Hameed showed great maturity at the highest level.

“He showed great character for a 19 year old at this level. He put his hand up when his team wanted him to do it. He played a little bit with Jimmy Anderson in the end. He showed great maturity to play with tail like that. He knew exactly what he wanted to do and you can sense it as a captain, this guy is intelligent and knows the game,” Kohli had said.

He had also tipped him to be the future star for England cricket. “He is great prospect for England and definitely going to be a future star in all forms if persists with his skill. Really impressed and that’s why I patted him on the back, innings full of character and something to applaud,” Kohli had added further.

Now, interestingly, it can be seen that Haseeb Hameed had always been a Virat Kohli fan. Back in March this year, Hameed had taken to Twitter to quote Virat Kohli as the best-limited overs player in the world. Hameed conducted a poll asking if Kohli is the best one day cricketer is. Although the poll went against Kohli with 55 per cent negative, Hameed soon tweeted Kohli to be the best one day batsman. He wrote, “THE best One Day player of all time #Kohli.”
