Young Haseeb Hameed flew into India with a lot of anticipation; at 19 he was drafted in the team to tackle the spin challenge. He did his reputation a world of good in just the three games he played on the tour, he not only scored runs but got them at an important time and also displayed his attributes as a cricketer while doing that.

He has been praised all around for showing a lot of determination and character in the second inning of the Mohali Test where he batted with a broken finger but didn’t give in and remained unbeaten while the team was bowled out. Hameed flew back home for a surgery and though he won’t be on the field any further will be around to watch the team play.

Yesterday, former Indian cricketer and commentator Mohammad Kaif met the youngster and was quite happy after the meeting. Kaif called him a rare talent and tweeted, ‘Pleasure meeting @HaseebHameed97 and his family. Haseeb is born with the Naseeb to play cricket. #RareTalent’

Thank you Kaif Bhai, pleasure meeting you also. Hope you had a great day yesterday

Earlier in the day Hameed had posted a couple of tweets expressing his disappointment at not being able to take part in the series any further. “Disappointing to leave the tour in this fashion but it’s been another incredible experience. Thank you to both sets of fans for the support.”

“Will be watching with great interest knowing the lads will be giving it their all to level this series. See you all soon!” he wrote.

He also quoted a tweet from the BCCI which was a picture of his one-on-one interaction with Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. Hameed termed it a great moment to be talking with Kohli who he admires greatly as a cricketer.

“This was a great moment for me as well. A really sincere and honest guy. Grateful for his time, minutes after his side had won the game.”
