Fondly known as Mr. Cricket, Mike Hussey is one of the most important parts of Australian cricketing folklore. Of course, they have had the likes of Dennis Lillee and Greg Chappell, but no one has been idolized quite as much as Hussey. However, since his retirement from all forms of cricket, he has taken up the reins of several coaching roles thrust upon him.
While these roles would see him giving his opinions on batsmen, it seems quite unusual that someone like Hussey opens up on bowlers. The 41-year old believes that Josh Hazelwood is one of the best bowlers in the world at the moment. Hussey also went on to add that a player such as him was heavily underrated, to say the least. “He’s got to be up there with the No.1 bowlers in the world at the moment,” Hussey told Fox Sports News 500.
“He’s underrated I think. He’s at number five (in the ICC’s Test bowling rankings) at the moment, but the form that he’s in at the moment is absolutely outstanding.
He also went on to add that Hazelwood was an absolute nightmare to face under lights and with the pink ball. “He’s just there or thereabouts all the time. He gets a good bounce. This wicket really suits him at the Gabba under lights. It’s an absolute nightmare to face him.”
“That little bit of time off has actually helped him, and we’re seeing the results of that now, in him bowling so well and taking so many wickets,” Harris told Fox Sports News 500.
“If his body stays true and fit and well, who knows how far he can go. (He could take) three to four hundred Test wickets depending on how many Test matches he plays.
Hussey also stated that there is a belief around the Australian bowling attack at the moment. “He does a great job for Australia. He complements Mitchell Starc and obviously Jackson Bird as well. He can go a long way and as I said I love watching him bowl.”
