Royal Challengers Bangalore are on a roll in the ongoing IPL 2022 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Akash Deep made the ball talk as KKR lost one wicket after another. Notably, the Knight Riders stepped into this clash as favourites, having defeated Chennai Super Kings in the opening fixture.

Moreover, RCB lost their opening game against Punjab Kings despite posting a mammoth 205/2 while batting first. While RCB bowlers endured a hard time in that game, they didn’t put a foot wrong this time around. Skipper Faf du Plessis was also brilliant with his field placements and rotation of bowlers. However, he also made a terrible call in the contest, leaving the fans puzzled.

His error also cost RCB a DRS call. It was the last ball of the 16th over and Harshal Patel was bowling to number-11 batter Varun Chakravarthy. It was a full-length delivery from Patel which Chakravarthy tackled with a straight bat. Harshal believed that the ball hit the boots and that was evident in his strong appeal.

Trusting the right-arm pacer, Du Plessis took the review and what followed was embarrassment on the big screen. The replay clearly showed that Chakravarthy had hit the ball and Twitter didn’t take long in igniting a meme fest. Notably, KKR were nine down when this incident took place and Faf saw an opportunity to wrap up the innings.

However, his call was a poor one as fans couldn’t believe how the former South African captain can make such a howler. Meanwhile, Chakravarthy and Umesh Yadav added 27 runs for the last wicket as the two-time champions posted 128 while batting first. Interestingly, eight of KKR’s 11 batters entered double digits but none of them could play an innings of substance. Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the RCB bowlers, scalping four wickets.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Faf du Plessis’ howler:
