Ishan Kishan was bought back by the Mumbai Indians for a staggering INR 15.25 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction in February. While he did show a lot of promise in the season opener against Delhi Capitals, scoring an unbeaten 81, the youngster has failed to make much impact going forward and has been dismissed early on a few occasions.

With Kishan struggling to find form on the 22 yards, former India Test opener Aakash Chopra has opined that the team management must rest the wicketkeeper-batter immediately. Giving further clarification on the same, the cricketer-turned-commentator said that the 23-year-old does not seem to be in the right mindset and that there is no confidence and zero belief in himself.

Ishan Kishan doesn’t seem in the right mindset: Aakash Chopra

“Rest Ishan Kishan. He doesn’t seem in the right mindset. Why increase the agony? It is just agony. There is no confidence, zero belief. He is a much better player, but he is not playing well,” said Chopra while speaking on his official  YouTube channel.

Kishan has so far amassed just 199 runs at an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 108.15 from eight matches including two half-centuries. Moreover, nothing has gone right for the Mumbai Indians as well in this entire season. The Rohit Sharma-led side has lost all its eight games and officially became the very first team to be knocked out of IPL 2022 after a 36-run defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants last weekend.

All they can hope now is to salvage pride by winning their remaining six games and bow out on a high. The five-time winners are also languishing at the bottom of the points table. Mumbai Indians would be eager to register their first points when they meet an in-form Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 30. It would be interesting to see what will be Mumbai’s team combination for this particular contest.
