Former Indian International Ambati Rayudu is once again in the news. The Hyderabad batsman who had announced his retirement from all forms of the game following his 2019 World Cup snub took a U-turn and returned to competitive cricket in August. Rayudu’s initial retirement came during India’s World Cup campaign when uncapped Mayank Agarwal was called in as a replacement cover for KL Rahul ahead of the Chennai Super Kings batsman.

Rayudu had led his state cricket team in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy and the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and had also shown interest in leading Hyderabad in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season before he pulled out at the last minute citing ‘rampant corruption’ in the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Rayudu had taken to Twitter to write to the minister of Telangana where he apprised him about the situation in Hyderabad Cricket Association.

“Hello sir @KTRTRS, I request u to plz look into nd address the rampant corruption prevailing in hca. How can hyderabad be great when it’s cricket team is influenced by money nd corrupt ppl who hav numerous acb cases against them which are being swept under the carpet,” Rayudu tweeted.

Commenting on Rayudu’s claims of ‘blatant corruption’, the newly-appointed president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has shrugged off the right-hander’s assertions by stating that Ambati Rayudu was a “frustrated cricketer”.

“He is a frustrated cricketer,” the newly-appointed HCA President was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Ambati Rayudu disappointed by Azharuddin’s efforts

Earlier Rayudu had claimed in an interview that he has had talks with the president of the HCA who had assured him that he was trying his best but nothing of that sort happened. Rayudu felt that Azharuddin should have taken stronger measures and the fact that all of his assurances turned out to be mere election promises, the game has suffered a lot.

“I did have a talk with the president. He always said he was trying his best. But it never happened. I feel he should have initiated stronger measures but he did not do that. I feel there were more election promises and as a result, the game suffered. It hurt me a lot. A few players, who did not deserve to be in the team, were included in the team because of the election promises. If this happens, how can a team improve?” Rayudu said as quoted by News 18.
