Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been leading his troops quite well since taking over the captaincy responsibilities after the T20 World Cup 2021. The 35-year-old helped India off to a great start alongside Suryakumar Yadav with a brisk 33 off 16 in the fourth T20I against West Indies. India finished with 191 in 20 overs and ended up winning the game by 59 runs to secure an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the five-match series.

India was expected to make a change in personnel with Avesh going for plenty in the last two games against West Indies. However, the management backed him to come good and gave the fast bowler another opportunity, which reaped the best out of him. The 25-year-old stepped up with the new ball and finished with 2 for 17 in his four-over spell and Rohit was delighted with the former’s performance.

Anyone can have one or two bad games: Rohit Sharma

Rohit underlined the talent that Avesh possesses and felt that any bowler can have one or two bad games. He noted the importance of understanding the skillset of any bowler and felt that providing ample chances in the playing XI is a key part of success. He hailed Avesh for using the height to his advantage and lauded the youngster.

“We do understand Avesh’s talent. Anyone can have one or two bad games, but we want to keep his skills in mind. We want to give boys enough game time in the middle. He used the conditions and his height really well, which was great to see,” Rohit told in the post-match conference.

The fifth T20I is scheduled to take place on August 8 at the Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. It will be interesting to see if India provide chances to the players on the bench who have not yet played in the ongoing series.
