Shahid Afridi’s recent comments over the Kashmir issue and India Prime Minister Narendra Modi provoked the ire of many fans. The former Pakistan skipper was at the receiving end of criticism after a video of him starting doing rounds across social media. During his visit to Pakistan occupied Kashmir, Afridi compared PM Modi to coronavirus while addressing the Kashmir affair between both the countries.

The video was lambasted by Indian fans on Twitter and the clip was trending in no time. Afridi’ssensational speech also infuriated many members of the Indian cricket fraternity. Two Indian stalwarts– Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh– had earlier supported Afridi’s foundation in its battle against COVID-19 outbreak.

Despite getting slammed for supporting Afridi, the duo had lent a helping hand for the sake of coronavirus situation across the world. However, the duo bashed Afridi and pledged to cut all connections. Harbhajan hit out at Afridi and said should be focussed more on his country and stay in his limits. While Yuvraj said that he won’t tolerate such words against his country and the Prime Minister.

Along with Harbhajan and Yuvraj, other players like Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir also bashed Afridi for his insensitive remarks. BJP leader from J&K, Ravinder Raina also joined the bandwagon and lashed out at Afridi. He reminded the Pakistan international of how he used to take a beating from Indian batsmen during his playing days.

Raina also reminded Afridi of Pakistan’s defeats against India in the wars and suggested him to stop making such statements against the country. He also tagged Afridi as a ‘desperate cricketer’ of his time.

“He (Afridi) should stop making insane statements against India. We know he is a disappointed and desperate cricketer of his time and used to get a beating whenever he used to come to bowl to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. He has not forgotten it,” Raina said as quoted by Times Now.

“Our army hoisted the Indian flag in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad in the 1965 war and created Bangladesh by dividing Pakistan (in 1971). They (Pakistan) sneaked clandestinely into the heights of Kargil (1999) but were beaten back by our brave army,” the Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief added.
