Justin Langer stepped down as the head coach of the Australian cricket team earlier this month. And now, Langer’s former teammate and Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist feels that Langer can take up the role of head coach of the England cricket team.

England coach Chris Silverwood was sacked after the Ashes series, and Gilchrist feels that Langer would be a good fit in the England setup. Gilchrist also added that it would be awesome to see Langer and Ben Stokes working together and further said that Stokes’ work ethic is on par with that of Langer’s.

“I don’t say this in a provocative sense, but I do look at the setup at the moment with England and think he would be a good fit. It would be awesome to see Justin Langer working with Ben Stokes. The work ethic from Stokes is on par with Justin Langer’s and that would be intriguing to see what could grow and develop and sprout from that,” said Gilchrist on The Shackles Are Off podcast.

You don’t need to be Einstein to find out Langer is hurt: Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist further said that Justin Langer is hurt, and it might take some time for things to materialise. Adding that Langer needs more time to heal himself, Gilchrist concluded by stating that Langer should work out whether he wants to do ‘other’ things in his life after his stint with Australia has come to an end.

“It just might be a bit soon… He’s been hurt, you don’t need to be Einstein to work that out. He needs a bit of time to heal and dust himself off and work out whether he sees himself as a career coach or was coaching Australia the pinnacle and he now wants to go off and do a number of other things,” concluded Adam Gilchrist.

Gilchrist represented the Australian team in 96 Tests, 287 ODIs, and 13 T20Is in his international career.
